REQUIEM

Below are the two final essays to be posted on Allegiance and Duty Betrayed. The first one is written by a friend -- screen name 'Euro-American Scum' -- who, over the past four years, has been the most faithful essayist here. He has written about everything from his pilgrimage to Normandy in 2004 to take part in the 60th–year commemoration of the invasion, to his memories of his tour in Vietnam. His dedication to America’s founding principles ... and those who have sacrificed to preserve them over the past 200+ years ... is unequaled. Thank you, E-A-S. It has been a privilege to include your writing here, and it is a privilege to call you my friend.

The second essay is my own farewell. And with it I thank all of the many regular visitors, and those who may have only dropped in occasionally, for coming here. I hope you learned something. I hope a seed or two was planted. But, even if not, I thank you for stopping by ... 25 March, 2010

Reflections on What's Ailing Us

Kudos to Gary Varvel for his take on Islamic fascists …

And to William Federer for this hauntingly familiar ‘recollection’ …

Rome fell September 4, 476 A.D. It was overrun with illegal immigrants: Visigoths, Franks, Anglos, Saxons, Ostrogoths, Burgundians, Lombards, Jutes and Vandals, who at first assimilated and worked as servants, but then came so fast that they did not learn the Latin language or the Roman form of government.

Highly trained Roman legions, moving rapidly on their advanced road system, were strained fighting conflicts worldwide.

Rome had a trade deficit, having outsourced most of its grain production to North Africa, and when Vandals captured that area, Rome did not have the resources to relatiate.

Attila the Hun was committing terrorist attacks.

The city of Rome was on welfare with citizens being given free bread. One Roman commented: ‘Those who live at the expense of the public funds are more numerous than those who provide them.’ Tax collectors were ‘more terrible than the enemy.’

Gladiators provided violent entertainment at the Coliseum.

There were injustices in courts, exposure of unwanted infants, infidelity, immorality and perverted bathhouses.

Fifth-century historian, Salvian, wrote: ‘O Roman people be ashamed … Let nobody think otherwise, the vices of our bad lives have alone conquered us.’

UN's battlefield-intelligence collaboration with Hezbollah . .

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)------

real-time intelligence is being provided to that enemy, Hezbollah, by uniformed UN observers who are supposed to be neutral:

Marcus' review of UNIFIL's Web postings show that it was daily revealing the towns Israeli soldiers had moved into, the positions from which they were firing, and when and how they had entered Lebanon. These postings described the nature of their weaponry and materiel, and the locations of Israeli Defense Force safety structures mere hours after their construction.

This isn't the first time UNIFIL aided Hezbollah. In an Oct. 7, 2000, incident similar to the killing and capture by Hezbollah of IDF soldiers that sparked the latest war, Hezbollah operatives used cars disguised as U.N. vehicles to kidnap and kill three Israeli soldiers.

UNIFIL not only observed, but also videotaped, the incident. When Israel asked for a copy of the tape, it was first told that no such tape existed, then that handing it over would violate the U.N.'s "neutrality."
. . .
For six years, UNIFIL watched the Iranian advanced guard move in 13,000 rockets and place them in hardened bunkers [in Lebanon]. The U.N. gang let its observers and posts be shields for Hezbollah attacks.

Joanie,

Love the cartoon. Did you hear President Bush's speech at the UN this morning?

It was interesting that they made him wait while the President of Brazil made a ridiculous typically socialist speech, and his (Bush's) started almost an hour late.

I didn't see it but read the transcript. It was interesting that the transcript read "nuclear" when I'm sure he must have said "nucular". { g }

I thought it was a good speech, but considering the audience will accomplish nothing.

Sandra, The UN is not just enabling Iran. They're enabling any coutry or any group that wants to see Israel destroyed. If there was ever an obvious example of anti-Semitism it is in the consistent policies of the United Nations.

And here's a group that is doing what it can to make us all understand that: http://www.jta.org/page_view_story.asp?intarticleid=17076&intcategoryid=4

Sandra, I don't argue with Hizbollah being a threat in the middle east, but try reading this to curl your hair even more: http://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Out-Lebanon-Hezbollah-Terrorists/dp/0891418709/sr=8-7/qid=1158722938/ref=pd_bbs_7/002-4470642-0617638?ie=UTF8&s=books

More than 1,000 Taliban killed in offensive: NATO commander
9/20/2006

http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?id=143033

WASHINGTON - NATO forces killed over 1,000 Taliban fighters in an offensive in southern Afghanistan that has forced their retreat, NATO's supreme commander said Wednesday.
...

"It remains to be seen how much more capacity they have for this kind of fight," Jones told reporters here. "I think they will look for other areas."

Asked his estimate of the number of Taliban fighters killed in NATO's "Operation Medusa" in the south, Jones said "probably somewhere in the neighborhood of around 1,000. But you can go up two or three hundred. If you said 1,500, it wouldn't surprise me."

Jones estimated the size of the Taliban force at 3,000 to 4,000 hard-core fighters at any given time, augmented by "weekend warriors" fighting for pay.

Police to brief Muslims before terror raids
by ABUL TAHER

POLICE have agreed to consult a panel of Muslim leaders before mounting counter-terrorist raids or arrests. Members of the panel will offer their assessment of whether information police have on a suspect is too flimsy and will also consider the consequences on community relations of a raid.
Members will be security vetted and will have to promise not to reveal any intelligence they are shown. They will not have to sign the Official Secrets Act.

The first panel, expected to consist of four people, will be set up initially in London. Tomorrow representatives from police forces across England and Wales will decide whether to make the scheme national.
Muslim groups have welcomed the move, which is understood to be backed by Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police commissioner.
This week the Association of Chief Police Officers will discuss with MI5 and the Home Office whether to reveal to the panel intelligence information from the security service.
The idea came from the Metropolitan police and the Muslim Safety Forum (MSF), which works for better police-Muslim relations. It has been under discussion for two years and came to the top of the agenda after a police raid in Forest Gate, London, in June, in which a man was shot. Police were acting on a tip-off about a bomb. None was found.
Azad Ali, chairman of the MSF, said: “The major concern that came to us from Muslims was that the intelligence was flawed — the raid was on assumption and nothing else. This will allow independent scrutiny of intelligence.”
The police and the Crown Prosecution Service have sometimes been criticised for being over-cautious about tackling Muslim extremism. Last week Abu Izzadeen, a radical cleric who has so far escaped prosecution despite seemingly inciting terrorism, gained entry to a closed meeting in east London and heckled John Reid, the home secretary.
It has now emerged that Izzadeen apparently urged Muslims to wage holy war in Britain in an internet video downloaded by several thousand users from websites that closed down two months ago. The sites were linked to the Saved Sect, of which Izzadeen was leader and which has now been banned and disbanded.
In the video he told his audience: “In the UK no fighting takes place yet, but don’t be fooled, the time will come to you brothers . . . fighting is so close at hand.”
He adds: “You prepare yourself now and when the hard time comes you are ready to defend yourself; you are ready to die for the sake of Allah.”
David Corker, a partner in the London law firm Corker Binning, which has dealt with terrorism cases, said of the video: “There is enough material there for him to be considered for prosecution.”
Izzadeen, 34, did not respond to requests for comment this weekend.
