REQUIEM

Below are the two final essays to be posted on Allegiance and Duty Betrayed. The first one is written by a friend -- screen name 'Euro-American Scum' -- who, over the past four years, has been the most faithful essayist here. He has written about everything from his pilgrimage to Normandy in 2004 to take part in the 60th–year commemoration of the invasion, to his memories of his tour in Vietnam. His dedication to America’s founding principles ... and those who have sacrificed to preserve them over the past 200+ years ... is unequaled. Thank you, E-A-S. It has been a privilege to include your writing here, and it is a privilege to call you my friend.

The second essay is my own farewell. And with it I thank all of the many regular visitors, and those who may have only dropped in occasionally, for coming here. I hope you learned something. I hope a seed or two was planted. But, even if not, I thank you for stopping by ... 25 March, 2010

Mrs. Obama said recently: "We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another -- that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation."

Excuse me Mrs. Obama, but if you want to become first lady, you should learn the difference between a democracy and a republic. Hint: In a republic, individuals have rights and government is limited; In a democracy, everything an individual does or wants to do is subject to a vote of his neighbors. In that sort of setup, the government has unlimited power to enforce the "will of the people".

...and another thing: The content of my soul is NOT the concern of your proposed government.

In America, the only obligation each of us has is to respect the individual rights others.

Obama's campaign said in a statement:

"Senator Obama visited this morning with John and Elizabeth Edwards at their home in Chapel Hill to discuss the state of the campaign and the pressing issues facing American families."

I see an Obama-Edwards ticket in our future.

This is perfect! Obama sends the earnings of Americans to the United Nations, and Edwards sues the companies Americans (used to) work for.

The world is going to hell in a hand basket and, instead of setting an example and being a "shining city on a hill," America is begging to join the parade.

Obama doesn't even try to hide his communist/socialist beliefs. But the media's doing a good job of it.

We're done.

In the past week alone I've run across 3 people who are supporting Obama, and none of them could give me a good reason why. It's time to stop the "bring out the vote" campaigns. A lot of people who vote shouldn't. They don't know what the hell they're voting for.

Mrs. Obama, we are NOT a democracy. And it isn’t government’s role to decide on the "fairness" of life, at least not in a free society. We’re at the brink of extinction as a free society when the front-runner for the Presidency sees the role of government as everything the signers of the Constitution were trying to prevent, and the public either doesn’t know or doesn’t care.

From "The Obama Mystery"

(http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/15/AR2008021502962.html)

Obama is a phenomenon in American politics -- a candidate who has ignited an enthusiasm among young people that I haven't seen in decades. He promises a nation in which, as his supporters chant, "race doesn't matter." And for a world that is dangerously alienated from American leadership, he offers a new face that could dispel negative assumptions about America -- and in that sense boost the nation's standing and security.

But these are symbolic qualities. What Obama would actually do as president remains a mystery in too many areas. Before he completes what increasingly looks like a march to the Democratic nomination, Obama needs to clarify more clearly what lies behind the beguiling banner marked "change."

But "change" is such a catchy slogan. It doesn't require any thought and it has a positive ring to it. What more could the voters want????

Barack Obama is Disturbing, But Don’t Tell Anyone! (Yet)

Uh oh. It’s starting to leak out too early. It’s not time yet.

Conservative commentators have started to notice a few things about Barack Obama, and they are things that kind of give you the creeps. I’ve noticed them too. We need to talk about these things.

But let’s get our timing right, here, friends. I thought we still liked Obama! At least for a few more months. Granted, he is anathema to conservatives in every way except for one, but the one exception is crucially important: He is kicking the crap out of Hillary Clinton.

How can you not love that? Of course we don’t want him to actually get elected, but by foiling the diabolical dream of Queen Inevitable, Obama is doing a profound service to the nation.

Indeed, it is such a profound service, that I for one think he can stop serving America as soon as he’s finished her off. Really. Thanks for everything, Barack. Nothing more is required of you.

But if you really look closely at Obama, it’s hard not to notice some disquieting things.

First, he rarely says anything of substance, and on the rare occasions when he does, it’s completely bizarre. He wants to meet with Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. He wants to invade Pakistan. He wants to “reward work instead of rewarding wealth,” because as we all know, work and wealth are in a perpetual state of war with each other....(read more)

...and another thing: The content of my soul is NOT the concern of your proposed government.

Thank you for that, John Cooper! I am sick to death of hearing these two bit politicians (Obama is one of the worst) preaching to us about our duties to one another.

Your quote from Mrs. Obama contains the phrase "the least of these" which is right out of the Bible.

How DARE these people set themselves up as our moral superiors and how DARE they say that the government has the power to force us to "care"?

Paul Nicholas:

"it's completely bizarre"

Yes, and no different than, in all of federally-funded college-dom, where students encounter the wordity that passes as substance among "professors."

Upon which nothing-is-there-ness, "new" realities of the students' imagine are locked in, and upon graduation, the students go forth to "build" on them ... only to find that there is no value in such "intellectual derivatives."

A future built on wordity.

You would be amazed at how many kids graduate from college, and they are stunned to find, that the New Wordity is not the lingua worka, and that they have been "totally equipped to" chat.

(There are actually no words to describe the phenomenon; given that all things past are now intellectually banned, having been replaced by value-less derivatives, if things past have anything to do with conservation, moral bearing, preservation, protection, and standards. I tried to explain it, though now, I must flee from the "thought police!")

The article admonishing Republicans to vote for Hillary in order to get McCain elected only makes sense if one wants to get McCain elected.

After voting for "the lesser of two evils" for the last twenty years, I've learned my lesson.

I am deeply ashamed that I voted for both Bush I and Bush II. They are part of a corrupt establishment elite and I helped put them there.

I'm not a vegetarian and I'm not against people killing cows for their meat, but watching those videos that were taken at the Hallmark meatpacking plant today made me sick. The men who were poking those sick cows in their eyes with sticks, etc. are the same kind of men who ran the concentration camp and they need to be jailed for a long time.

It's just 60 seconds of opinion, but it's a great rebuttal to Mrs. Obama's statement you posted.

How Has Barack Obama Changed Your Life?

Barack Obama has cured my gingivitis.

I went to a Obama rally and my athletes foot went away.

Barack Obama made me feel better about my body image.

Barack Obama gave me hope that I won’t have to pay my mortgage.

I think Barack Obama will shovel my walk after the next snow fall. Yes He Can!!!!!

I used to be one of those guys who watched the erectile dysfunction ads on TV; now any I time I need to be aroused I simply play a tape of a Barack Obama speech. Pls. don’t use my name because I am a member of the media.

I believe that Obama will get me Packer season tickets.

I was going to start savings for my children’s education, but now I know that barrack Obama will take care of it for me.

I’m a white male and barrack Obama makes me dance better.

I believe that Barack Obama has stopped me from going bald.

I believe that Barack Obama will stop global warming; and if he doesn’t we’ll enjoy it so much more if he’s president.

He’s made sex better; of course it is sometimes distracting when my wife yells out Barack, Barack, YES WE CAN YES WE CAN!!!!!!

In the "Arbeit Macht Frei" category, Mrs. Obama says:
~~~~~
Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.
~~~~~
Ja Wohl, Mein Fuerher!

Chris Muir sums her statement up nicely with this cartoon

...and a spot-on comment from " MichaelSmith" at Captains Quarters blog.
~~~~~
Modern liberalism and Nazism share the same fundamental premise: they are both based on the notion that the “needs” of some individuals trump the individual’s rights to his property and, if necessary, his freedom – and that government must have the power to force individuals and businesses to make whatever sacrifices are necessary to fulfill those “needs”.
Remember that the complete name of the Nazi party was the “National Socialist Worker’s Party of Germany”. Here is a portion of the Nazi party platform:
“We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living.”
“The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within its confines and be for the good of all. Therefore, we demand: ... an end to the power of the financial interests.”
“We demand profit sharing in big business.”
“We demand a broad extension of care for the aged.”
“In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our entire system of public education .... “
“We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents.”
“The government must undertake the improvement of public health—by protecting mother and child, by prohibiting child labor.... by the greatest possible support for all clubs concerned with the physical education of youth.”
“[We] combat the... materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people can only proceed from within on the foundation of The Common Good Before the Individual Good.”
Modern liberalism advocates all of this.
No, Obama doesn’t plan to single out one group for mass extermination the way Hitler did the Jews. But he does have to have a scapegoat – as well as a means of financing his programs. Thus, he plans to further demonize, regulate, punish and tax both the most successful of American businesses as well as the most successful individuals, the high income taxpayers.
No, Obama doesn’t plan to launch a war against neighboring countries. But this apparent pacifism is only a superficial difference versus the militancy of the Nazis. Obama doesn’t have to launch a war against other countries – he has the world’s largest economy to loot to pay for his socialistic schemes. So Obama’s war will be an internal war – a war against America’s most productive individuals.
Cooper, Michael Smith's comments are very similar to an article by Jonah Goldberg in National Review a couple weeks ago entitled "A Half Century's Slander: It isn't Conservatives Who Must Answer for Fascism". It's a brilliant article, just as your friend Smith's comments are. It's too bad most people are too shallow to see what they do, and the media is too biased to bring it out.
You may be interested to see this article in the Times (of London) today.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/gerard_baker/article3412540.ece
It is entitled :
"Obama: is America ready for this dangerous leftwinger?
Listen to the rhetoric of Barack Obama ... "
"His increasingly desperate opponent, Hillary Clinton, keeps hammering away that his message is all talk and no substance - and she was joined this week by Mr Obama's likely Republican opponent in the November general election, John McCain.
But if you listen to Mr Obama's speeches, it is not the lack of substance but the quality of it that ought to worry Americans. His victory speech after his latest primary win in Wisconsin this week was a case in point.
There was no shortage of proposals. He plans large increases in government spending on health and education. He wants to tax the rich more to pay for it. He is against companies using the opportunities of free markets to restructure their operations in the US. He is vehemently protectionist. He continues to insist, despite the growing evidence that this left-wing nostrum would be lunacy, that the US must pull its troops out of Iraq with the utmost dispatch.
While he speaks of the need for Americans to move beyond partisanship (“We are not blue states or red states, but the United States” is a campaign meme), when you cut through the verbiage there is nothing to suggest he believes anything that is seriously at odds with the far Left of his party. If you think about it for a second, it's not really an accident that he has been endorsed by the likes of Ted Kennedy and Jesse Jackson.
Though he talks with great eloquence about the future, he sounds for all the world like one of the long line of Democrats from George McGovern to Walter Mondale to Michael Dukakis, who became history by espousing policies and striking a rhetorical pose that was well out of the mainstream of American politics."
London Times Obama Article
From the London Times article:
And surely even critics of the US could scarcely deny that there have been real causes for American pride in the past 25 years: the fall of the Berlin Wall; the victory in the first Gulf War in 1991; the nation's unity in grief and resolve after September 11. Heck, I suspect most Americans got a small buzz of patriotic pride this week when they heard that one of their multimillion-dollar missiles had shot a dead but dangerous satellite travelling at 17,000 miles per hour out of the sky so that it fell harmlessly to Earth.
But not, apparently, Michelle Obama, wife of the man who is now the putative Democratic candidate for US president, and at this point favourite to succeed to that job. In what might be the most revealing statement made by any political figure so far in this campaign season, Mrs Obama caused a stir this week. She said that the success of her husband Barack's campaign had marked the first time in her adult life that she had felt pride in her country.
It looks like they're not wearing rose colored glasses across the pond.
Joanie, here's a great article by your man Krauthammer:
Imagine the transformative effects in the region, and indeed in the entire Muslim world, of achieving a secure and stable Iraq, friendly to the United States and victorious over al-Qaeda. Even though the choice it looks like we're going to have in November is a lesser of two evils one, Obama's communist beliefs, and his aim to immediately withdraw us from Iraq, are completely unacceptable. Even with all his faults, McCain is not a communist, and he is a hawk in the war on terror.
Very good article.
Obama's health care plan:
"“We now face an opportunity – and an obligation – to turn the page on the failed politics of yesterday’s health care debates.... My plan begins by covering every American. If you already have health insurance, the only thing that will change for you under this plan is the amount of money you will spend on premiums. That will be less. If you are one of the 45 million Americans who don’t have health insurance, you will have it after this plan becomes law. No one will be turned away because of a preexisting condition or illness.”
--Barack Obama, Speech in Iowa City, IA, May 29, 2007
Got that? Everyone's covered, and the cost will go down.
