REQUIEM

Below are the two final essays to be posted on Allegiance and Duty Betrayed. The first one is written by a friend -- screen name 'Euro-American Scum' -- who, over the past four years, has been the most faithful essayist here. He has written about everything from his pilgrimage to Normandy in 2004 to take part in the 60th–year commemoration of the invasion, to his memories of his tour in Vietnam. His dedication to America’s founding principles ... and those who have sacrificed to preserve them over the past 200+ years ... is unequaled. Thank you, E-A-S. It has been a privilege to include your writing here, and it is a privilege to call you my friend.

The second essay is my own farewell. And with it I thank all of the many regular visitors, and those who may have only dropped in occasionally, for coming here. I hope you learned something. I hope a seed or two was planted. But, even if not, I thank you for stopping by ... 25 March, 2010

Democrat Betrayal of our Troops
on Yet Another Front

soldier_vote.jpg

Below is a transcript of a news report aired on FoxNews this evening. While reading it, ask yourself which of the two major parties consistently claims to be ‘against the war, but in full support of our troops’. Which party bends over backwards to register felons, illegal immigrants, dead people, pet canaries, and deadbeats whose entitlement mentality makes them predisposed to vote for the nanny-state/free-lunch party? And then ask yourself whether, once and for all, the democrat party should be re-labeled the ‘betraytal party of convenient lies’.

In many cases, it turns out, the ballots of military personnel are not even tabulated. They are risking their lives defending our freedoms, but their votes don’t always count.

According to the Federal Election Assistance Commission, more than one hundred thousand troops requested overseas military ballots to vote in 2006, but it turned out that more than half were never even counted.

Navy reservist Bob Carey was deployed to the Persian Gulf in 2004 and says he couldn’t get an absentee ballot in enough time to vote.

Ballots aren’t sent out by most states until about thirty days prior to the election. So there’s very little room, if any, for any type of error or delay. Service members say that military mail, delivered by the Postal Service, can take too long to reach them in war zones – not always enough time for absentee ballots to meet local election deadlines back home.

So right now our troops are being denied the right that their vote even counts.

Republican congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is calling for the Defense Department, not the U. S. Postal Service, to handle the ballots.

Says McCarthy, ‘All I want is a system that tracks the ballots, so you know where they are at any given time, and that they get back in time to the ballot box, so that our overseas military votes are actually counted.’

But democratic congressman Robert Brady (D-PA), chairman of the committee that oversees the legislation, says that the proposed legislation ‘places untenable administrative burdens on the Department of Defense and is opposed by the U. S. Postal Service.’

The Pentagon does employ ‘voter assistance officers’ in units to help soldiers vote, but others are calling for one national standard for military voting. There needs to be a uniform voting act, and all fifty states and territories need to ratify that act.

Some states are taking it upon themselves to make it easier for their military voters. Eight states allow voting by e-mail, and Arizona will start a special secure website for military voting this fall. If anybody’s vote should count, it’s those men and women who are overseas fighting for our freedoms.

Despite the efforts to help front line forces to vote, supporters of reform say time is running out. They fear that, while our troops are serving our country, not all of their voices will be heard in the ballot box come November.

Just another example of government of the bastards, by the bastards and for the bastards.

This is absolutely sickening.

Leave it to Congress and the USPS to disenfrancise those among us who most deserve to vote.

Disgusting. Our founders must be rolling in their graves.

We wouldn't want to offend the U.S. Postal Service now, would we? Rationalizing evil has become an art form with liberals.

Fox must have mentioned this once and done. I'm a regular listener and I haven't heard it. And you can bet the farm that none of the other "news outlets" carried the story. Freedom of the press is a curse these days.

God bless our troops!

The Democrats' refusal to make sure the votes of our troops count couldn't have anything to do with the fact that 90+% of the troops would vote for McCain, could it? Hmmmmmm.....

Pompous hypocrites.

You know, the Republicans are doing more and more of the last (entitlement-oriented) pandering, but they’ve yet to do all the others. I guess we Republicans still have a modicum of truth and morality on our side. I wonder for how long. It’s getting harder and harder to tell the two parties apart.

All of the above, with special emphasis on "Bastards!"

The most frequent cases of treason are found under the Capitol dome. Even though this isn't treason, it's just as despicable.

What's good for America, and all "real" Americans, doesn't even cross the minds of these sniveling cowards. All they want to do is tell us how to live. Period.

Speaking of bastards, now that the good news in Iraq is starting to leak out, Congress has voted to stop it. H.R.3222, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2008, contains this paragraph:

SEC. 8001. No part of any appropriation contained in this Act shall be used for publicity or propaganda purposes not authorized by the Congress.

This bill became law in November of last year.

I remember when Gore tried to block the overseas military ballots in his quest to win Florida.

These are the type of people who work to be commander in chief of the US armed forces.
