REQUIEM

Below are the two final essays to be posted on Allegiance and Duty Betrayed. The first one is written by a friend -- screen name 'Euro-American Scum' -- who, over the past four years, has been the most faithful essayist here. He has written about everything from his pilgrimage to Normandy in 2004 to take part in the 60th–year commemoration of the invasion, to his memories of his tour in Vietnam. His dedication to America’s founding principles ... and those who have sacrificed to preserve them over the past 200+ years ... is unequaled. Thank you, E-A-S. It has been a privilege to include your writing here, and it is a privilege to call you my friend.

The second essay is my own farewell. And with it I thank all of the many regular visitors, and those who may have only dropped in occasionally, for coming here. I hope you learned something. I hope a seed or two was planted. But, even if not, I thank you for stopping by ... 25 March, 2010

The Modern Face of
Our Founders' Vision

Palin4.jpg

Tonight Governor Sarah Palin accepted the Republican nomination for Vice President of the United States by delivering a speech imbued throughout with the precious vision of our Founding Fathers. Her character, integrity, intellect, honesty, successful experience in governance, innate ability to size up her opponents, and love of country were evident in every word.

Tonight, after twenty long years of drought, Ronald Reagan is smiling once again.

We have to win one more for The Gipper.

It is a very pleasant surprise that such an inspiring person with integrity and a proven track record has emerged.

This election is for Americans to decide but as what is good for America is generally good for the rest of the world including Britain, I will be following this campaign closely to the end. Maybe we can even redisover what it is to be inspired this side of the Atlantic !

Sarah Palin's speech is the main news story in Britain this morning.

I wish all those involved in any way in the McCain-Palin campaign every success.

Joanie, listening to that speech, I thought you could have written it. No joke.

No matter how well McCain does tonight, his speech will be anticlimactic. Yes, I suspect The Gipper is dancing right about now. ;)

I wasn't going to vote in this election....until last night.

All of the speeches last night were wonderful, in contrast to the ones at the Dem convention. Palin is a born leader. Let's hope she gets the chance to prove that to us all come January.

I found you through Google this morning. Thank you for this great blog! Keep the information coming for the next 2 months. I'll send other people here too.

Luis, I'm glad to hear that Palin's speech is receiving a lot of coverage across the pond. Although it is receiving a lot of media coverage, both pro and con, here, it doesn't appear that enough people bothered to watch it last night to make much difference yet. The audience for Palin's speech represented just a fraction of the audience for Barack Obama's acceptance speech last week.

I suspect that, when she debates Biden on October 2nd, many more people will tune in to hear how the two of them compare. I also suspect she will more than hold her own, and then the voting public will wake up as to who she really is (as opposed to who the media wants us to believe she is).

After that debate, the media will only have a month to continue to slander her, so hopefully their attacks won't erode her popularity too badly.

I sincerely believe that this ticket is our last best hope to regain and preserve our freedoms before we completely lose our foundations, and slide irreversibly into the socialist quicksand.

If Obama/Biden take the reins in January, that will signify (to me, at least) that the majority of the American electorate didn't care enough to do their homework, because I refuse to believe that the majority of the American electorate would voluntarily place such anti-American, anti-liberty people in office. And it'll be all downhill from there.

Thanks for providing us yet another intelligent 'view from across the pond'. :)

Thanks for the kind words, John, undeserved though they may be. :)

You bet, Dave. But we have miles to go before we sleep.

McCain's speech tonight didn't compare to Palin's but I thought he did very well, especially when talking humbly about his imprisonment in Vietnam and what he learned from it.

Now starts the real battle.

I think that this time it will be up to the women of America to save this nation from a faith worse than death, that is Socialism. Hopefully they will vote for Sarah even if they don't like McCain.

I’ve been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we’d never see his like again because he was one of a kind.

I was wrong!

Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she.

CNN 6,114,000
ABC 5,050,000
CBS 4,630,000

The Associated Press reports that, counting PBS, over 40 million Americans watched Sarah Palin on television last night--more, by around two million, than saw Barack Obama in Denver.

This is really weird. I heard right after Palin's speech that her audience was only about 40% of Obama's. Now they're saying it was bigger. I guess you can do anything you want with numbers.

I heard the same thing. Either the first report was wrong or the numbers are meaningless.

I thought McCain's speech last night was boring. He's not a very good speaker. The best parts were his POW recollections and the very end where he continued talking forcefully while the delegates were applauding. All in all, I don't think he did himself any favors.

As soon as Palin visits our area I plan to go hear her speak. Taking the whole family too. It should be a memorable experience.

Sarah is not the target of left-wing Stalinist wrath that we read and hear about.

It is you, dear American woman, mother and homemaker, who have dared to leave the ranks of untouchables beneath the elitist-sphere and appear to challenge the rule by left-wing snobs.

It is you, regular conservative working men and women, who dare to protect and defend our Constitution - and particularly its principles that are in its writing and in *how it was written* - such as the enumeration of gov't powers, all else left to the people and the states.

The liberals, careening down their federally-funded limited access highways thru academia, now suddenly find in their way, real American working lives and livelihoods. Rather than having to answer to the exclusive "First Amendment" compounds carved out of extra-Constitutional space in the minds of judicial egos that view themselves above our Constitution, now this mutual admiration society of left-wing-nuts finds itself confronted by a natural obstacle to its careless spending of other people's money, particularly that of ordinary working moms and dads who raise families miraculously in the absence of federall-funded "experts" telling them how in between commercials and limousine liberals' sound bites.

God Bless you, dear untouchable, for daring to stand up to the tyranny of the federally-funded class of ego-maniacs who are drunk with their own power that constantly seeks to reduce you to nothing more than a statistic on voting day, if even that, given the odds of your being conservative.

In which case, how dare you vote without the permission of the puffed-up politically-correct thought police.

James, I can vouch for one who will be doing so, even though she doesn't like McCain.

Lou, thanks for the Michael Reagan quote. It gave me a significant lump in my throat to know that Reagan's son feels the way so many of us do (and never thought we would again).

John, your statistics floor me, too -- although I have since read that they are right. Like a few other posters here, I had originally heard that Palin's speech was nowhere near as well viewed as Obama's. Glad to hear that report was wrong.

First_Salute,

I'm proud to have the reincarnation of Eliot Ness posting here on AADB. :)

Seriously, back to your original intent ... We conservatives do often feel as though we are considered invisible objects of derision and disdain by none other than our 'public servants'. How on earth did the role of 'leadership' in a representative republic become so convoluted? Our 'leadership' now appears to believe that they are (certainly not benevolent) dictators to whom we must answer in every facet of our lives, and whose programs/brainchildren we must support and pay for with our sweat, with ever fewer of the fruits of our labors left in our own pockets.

You've got their number, First_Salute. And, if you had expanded even more on your call to arms, I daresay I would have preferred you to Giuliani as last week's keynote speaker.

Thank you!

Joanie,

The left-wing-nuts do not yet know the better half of it:

Conservative American moms and dads running for public office all around our great country, by-passing the "closed shop" of the care-less local and state "GOP" whose only wish has been for a return to business as usual, in which that "GOP" kept giving away rights and property and our prosperity in return for political favors from the left.

Which worthless municipal bonds, have never paid, because of the same corrupt re-packaging and re-selling techniques used by liberals, limousine liberals, and their cronies/phonies in money and banking.

Phonies and phoney leverage, suddenly this year, finding themselves exposed and worthless in the real life marketplace.

Where ordinary good people now realize the the true worth-less-ness of so much fake "expertise," and are becoming determined that what we value must not be further de-valued by clever lawyer-politico-bots of either party.

Sarah Palin is just like many good men and women who are willing to do the work in making a home, raising a family, operating some business, building, cooking, hunting, providing, tending, and defending our homes and hearth and country ... that liberals will not do and others who claim to be "Republicans" have taken for granted for so long, that they have forgotten what we are about:

liberty.
