REQUIEM

Below are the two final essays to be posted on Allegiance and Duty Betrayed. The first one is written by a friend -- screen name 'Euro-American Scum' -- who, over the past four years, has been the most faithful essayist here. He has written about everything from his pilgrimage to Normandy in 2004 to take part in the 60th–year commemoration of the invasion, to his memories of his tour in Vietnam. His dedication to America’s founding principles ... and those who have sacrificed to preserve them over the past 200+ years ... is unequaled. Thank you, E-A-S. It has been a privilege to include your writing here, and it is a privilege to call you my friend.

The second essay is my own farewell. And with it I thank all of the many regular visitors, and those who may have only dropped in occasionally, for coming here. I hope you learned something. I hope a seed or two was planted. But, even if not, I thank you for stopping by ... 25 March, 2010

President Barack Hussein Obama

alteredflag.jpg

I want to thank all of the loyal readers here for your love of country. We are living in troubling times, and your valuable insights and supportive comments have served to educate, and have been a source of uplift and comfort for me, and I am sure for others who have read your words here.

If I have neglected to respond to any of your comments, it has never been an intentional oversight, but simply because none of us seems to have enough hours in the day to do all that we should or would like. Please accept my apologies for any such oversights, and my gratitude for sharing your opinions and sources of information here.

This will probably be my last column before the election of 2008. I will not go into specifics regarding my claims in this essay, simply because the facts that back up my assertions have already been presented here on Allegiance and Duty Betrayed countless times in previous essays, written by me and AADB’s team members, over the past few months. I urge any new readers here to scroll down the list of essays and read those that may be of interest. There is much to be learned, and there are many links provided that steer the readers to source material and further research outlets.
_______________

Barring a miracle of God (and why would He favor us, when we have made it illegal to even utter his name in the public square?), America is about to elect a President who not only will not represent, but who despises, the regular readers of this weblog.

Barack Obama has spent his entire adult life encouraging, and working toward, the establishment of an entitlement state, where the rich get poorer, and the poor get richer on the back of the working class. He will see to it that the already-dismembered United States Constitution is shredded beyond recognition, and beyond repair, by implementing a rule by elite that sees the redistribution of wealth and power as its highest calling. And that redistribution will be accomplished through an incessant focus on the concept of fairness – a term whose definition will be the sole responsibility of the elite class.

There is no more subjective term in the English language.

Listen for that word … fairness … in political rhetoric. You will find that it is almost exclusively used by leftists. It is a term that seeks definition by someone who intends to level a playing field. And leftists see themselves as the Great Levelers, whose destiny it is to both define and accomplish fairness, at the point of a gun if need be.

Those of you who are Christians ... pick up any Bible concordance. Look up the word fairness and count the number of times it appears in His word.

It appears once:

    Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair. (Colossians 4:1)
You and I, dear reader, will be forced at the point of a gun to buy for others ‘less fortunate’ -- as defined by the ruling elite -- homes, health insurance, food, and all manner of other ‘necessities’ -- also as defined by the ruling elite -- that the new Constitution (whether written or merely understood) will deem everyman’s right.

Our soon-to-be President has longtime, deep personal and ideological ties with anti-American mentors, Marxist ideologues, and terrorist sympathizers. His beliefs and his agenda were largely forged by those ties.

But any mention during the campaign of said ties is, of course, mean-spirited. And mean-spirited is something that no one wants to be considered in Amerika 2008.

Yet by my own personal perspective, all of the above ‘sins’ are trumped by one less frequently reported one. It is not considered an issue of urgency by most Americans, and yet, even more than his stand on any other issue, I believe it goes to the heart of the man who will lead us, so I ask you to allow me my momentary diversion:

    In 2001, while serving in the Illinois senate, Barack Obama was the only senator to speak out in opposition to a bill that would have banned the practice of leaving premature babies to die ... babies who were ‘unfortunate’ enough to be born alive after an abortion attempt.

    The bill was short and carefully worded in unambiguous language. It applied only to premature babies, already born alive, and there was no way it could be interpreted so as to limit a woman’s ‘right’ to abortion.

    Under the bill, babies born alive during an attempted abortion would have to be treated just like every other baby that is born alive or prematurely — not left to die a tortuous death, but given treatment according to an acting physician’s medical judgment as to what is necessary and what is possible — just as would apply to any other human being.

    In the end, and inarguably as a result of his arguments against the bill, Barack Obama and eleven other senators voted ‘present’ in a strategy they had conceived along with Planned Parenthood lobbyists. ‘Present’ votes in the Illinois senate are tallied as ‘no’ votes. Despite his objections, and his cowardice in voting ‘present’, the bill sailed through the senate supported by a bipartisan majority.
I offer no explanation as to why I consider his objection to this bill, and his ‘present’ vote, to be the most telling statement of his political career. But I ask every reader here to reflect on his actions and draw your own conclusions.

The American economy and the free market system are verging on collapse. Barack Obama, through his deep and longstanding connections with organizations such as ACORN, his ‘community activism’ (read: inciting minority/low-income groups to demand increasingly more money and special favors from government), and his embracing of Marxist doctrine, has played a pivotal role in bringing this crisis about.

John McCain warned the senate as early as three years ago that there was an economic crisis-in-the-making, and Barack Obama and his cadre of left-leaning power brokers – Senators Dodd and Reid, and Congressman Frank chief among them – succeeded in stifling McCain’s voice.

Yet the American electorate, fearful for their economic future, have allowed themselves to be indoctrinated into the belief that democrats can handle economic issues better than republicans.

Adolf Hitler believed, and urged his ministers of propaganda to always remember, that the receptivity of the masses is limited, their intelligence is small, and they respond well to slogans. The italicized sentence above would have made him proud!

And this simple slogan will prove to be what heralds Barack Obama’s ascension to the Presidency of the United States, and leader of the free world.

With few exceptions, the mainstream media do not talk of Obama’s dark past, or his largely hidden present. And they label as intolerant, racist, or mean-spirited, anyone who does. Yet, thanks to the internet, the truth is out there, for anyone to discover who is concerned enough to seek it.

The large majority of the American electorate prefer not to know, to embrace the mean-spirited charges made against the truth-tellers, and to spend their time in more enjoyable pursuits than doing their own research in order to distinguish truth from lies, and in order to uncover information that the media would prefer remained buried.

The legacy that our Founders left us contained a stern, drumbeat-repeated warning … expressed in all of their speeches and writings: that, above all else, we must seek to be informed and well-acquainted with the enemies of liberty. Without vigilance, liberty cannot long endure.

Echoing their pleas, one hundred and seventy years ago, Abraham Lincoln warned:

    At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
And yet, because American parents no longer seek to instill a sense of civic duty in their children … because we have handed over our public education system to left-leaning academics who refuse to teach our children a knowledge of, and sense of pride in, their proud ancestry ... because we continue to allow our population to be invaded and infiltrated by illegal immigrants, most of whom bear no allegiance to our republic ... and because the average American is more interested in being entertained and accumulating creature comforts than he is in holding his leaders accountable, we have succeeded in burying our Founders’ warnings in a cacophony of meaningless noise.

It will not be the specter of Islamic fascism that pounds the final nail into America’s coffin. Nor will it be the economic cataclysm that results from our abandoning the concepts of personal responsibility, limited government and the free market system.

It will be the ignorance and apathy of the American people that bring our beloved republic to her knees.

We owe our Founders, and our children, better.

An alcoholic has to hit bottom before he has any chance of recovering. While laying there drunk in an empty house, he has to decide once and for all whether he wants to live...or he wants to die.

America has been drunk on irrationality and "fairness" for almost a century now, but reality can't be fooled; Your choices eventually catch up with you, and the piper must be paid. All the checks that our government has been writing for years on the body-politic are now starting to come back marked "account overdrawn".

America's time of choosing is now.

I started to cry when I read this Joanie. I guess the truth hurts. We must continue to pray for America.

Please hurry back. :-)

Be of good cheer Joanie. All is not lost. I know things don’t look very good right now but there are still two debates left, and in a month’s time a lot can happen.

I agree with you that the media is definitely biased to the left and it has been for a very long time, but why do you think that is so?

Although I hope you are being too pessimistic I fear that you are not.

Focus, People A life-or-death election., by Anne Bayefsky
~~~~~
"Since the time of Hitler, civilization has never been so close to the brink of total catastrophe. This American election will decide whether civilization as we know it will survive. As much as economic questions are currently front and center, with blame to go all round, this is not an election primarily about corporate greed, or individuals living beyond their means, or government neglect of economic oversight. Nor is it about whether we should have gone into Iraq where, like it or not, American boots on the ground have begun to create an emerging democracy. This election is about whether there will be a nuclear holocaust."
Take heart Joanie. The Gallup poll yesterday showed Obama with 50% and McCain with 42%. Today there was a 1% switch at 49% and 43%.
I think Obama has hit his peak and he has nowhere to go but down, unless McCain makes a major mistake in one of the two remaining debates.
Also, I think people will have second thoughts about voting for a relative unknown as election day approaches.
All is not lost. Chin up, lady! ;)
That's an excellent article, Cooper.
We think so much about all of the other horrendous things Obama will do that we forget he wants to sit down and "reason" with mad men who want to destroy us and anyone else who doesn't agree with them.
Bayefsky covers all the bases. Thanks for the link.
Joanie,
I fear we are doomed.
I was going to take issue with the pessimistic slant to this piece but decided to give myself a little time to think before responding.
I never did get back to the computer yesterday and after watching the debate last night my mood pretty much mirrors yours.
Watching those two was like watching two children in a school yard. Both deflecting and pointing the finger of blame. Did not! Did too!
Putting aside Obama's ties to domestic terrorism, his anti gun voting record, his pro abortion record and his complete lack of experience or substance of any kind, they are like two peas in a pod.
People want to know what the government, led by one of these men, is going to do to "help" them. That is a whole other issue in and of itself, but the answer from the candidates is pretty much the same. "I'll take money from someone else and give it to you to "fix" your problem."
Mac wants to "buy up" all the bad mortgages in the country. WHERE THE HELL IS THAT $$$$ COMING FROM??
I have to wonder what a straight talker like Sarah Palin is thinking this morning. Is she too lamenting another lost opportunity to name names and point fingers.
I can't help but think that she is probably frustrated and maybe a little outraged at Mac's lack of fire and his unwillingness to draw a bright line between the two tickets.
America will survive Obama. I'm not sure if we will recognize her, but she will survive.
The real tragedy in my mind is that many innocent people around the globe will die because of Obama's lack of understanding of world affairs. The evil ones of this world will play him like a violin.....and people will die.
You're right Joanie. We do owe our founders and our children better. But, we usually get what we ask for and deserve.
God help us and may he protect all the innocents wherever they may be.
I think the media's left-leaning stand is the result of two things:
(1) At least early on, people with an activist bent tended to choose majors such as journalism in college.
(2) Today most people hired in decision-making positions in the media have to have a leftist mindset because those behind-the-scenes power brokers who actually run the mainstream media outlets actually require it.
John, Bayefsky's article is excellent! And, as Lou also said, she brings up a point that so many of us (me included) are overlooking -- that, despite all of the financial and liberty issues we are focusing on, human lives ... and many of them ... are at stake here.
Thanks for the link.
Barry,
Last night, after watching the debate, I sent the following message to a friend who is on the campaign staff of Alan Keyes:
________
I sat down to watch the debate tonight, masochist that I am.
They weren’t fifteen minutes in when McCain revealed his ‘plan to save the economy’, part of which consisted of the government (read: you and I) buying up all of the ‘bad mortgages’ and renegotiating them by cutting the principal owed.
It’s just a small straw (actually relatively miniscule in the grand scheme of government atrocities), but piled on top of countless others whose weight I have been trying to ignore, it’s the one that broke the camel’s back for me.
I’m finished with activism. I’m finished with voting only for a candidate who ‘can win’. I’m gonna sweep in front of my own door and pray that the death of our republic is less painful than I imagine it will be.
I know you consider this to be a cop out, since you are still courageously fighting the battle on many fronts, but I will not attempt to explain my exit from the arena. It would be too taxing.
God bless you, dear modern American patriot!
~ joanie
________
It's interesting that McCain's comment about buying up all the bad mortgages hit you about as hard as it did me!
I may still wind up voting for McCain once I get over this latest disappointment (understatement of the century), simply because Sarah Palin is on his ticket, but his consistently more left-leaning stands on the issues anger me more than I can express. That the republican standard bearer would take such stands would have been unthinkable fifty years ago.
From a National Review reader (via Mark Steyn):
Well I have gone outside and pulled up my Mcain/Palin sign. This election is over. I will vote for Mcain but I know that come Nov. 5 Obama will be our president-elect.
I feel sorry for Sarah Palin. A once promising career will be permanently connected to the landside loss of John McCain.
I weep for my children and their families.
Thanks you, Barry, for your excellent comment, and, like other readers here, for being a proud and faithful member of a dying breed.
Rush is disgusted with last night's debate too, and with many of McCain's liberal policies, like the buying of the bad mortgages he mentioned last night.
He's telling his listeners, "If watching these debates makes you mad, don't watch the next one. I'll watch it for you and tell you the salient points."
That sounds ridiculous, but I'm planning to take him up on his offer.
smithy - I set the timer on the DVD recorder last night and sat down in my recliner with my dogs on my lap to watch the debate. After 30 seconds, I turned off the TV in disgust and the dogs and I went to bed.
The *very first* question was "If you're president, what are you going to do for me?"
God help us. A *real* conservative would have answered, "I'm not going to do ANYTHING for you other than uphold the Constitution to the best of my ability. You have to make your own way in this world. If you want a president who will give you things, move to Cuba." Free rice-cookers for all!
As a species, we seem to be singularly unable to learn from our mistakes. 2000 years or so ago, Titus Livy, in the introduction to his monumental history of Rome remarked that his purpose in writing was "to trace the progress of our moral decline, to watch, first, the sinking of the foundations of morality as the old teaching was allowed to lapse, then the rapidly increasing disintegration, then the final collapse of the whole edifice, and the dark dawning of our modern day when we can neither endure our vices nor face the remedies needed to cure them."
Now that's the real quesiton, isn't it? Can we face the remedies needed to cure ourselves of the rot of Marxism and the 'vices' of modern American liberalism? Because those remedies are such that it may take several generations to understand and to forgive us for what we will have to do to save our Republic.
I choose to publish my name openly - the time is past for anonymity. Let us stand and be counted. Let us stand and fight for our lives and our freedom with every means and art known to us. And let ten more arise to stand in the gap where I once stood.
Amen, Ward.
We have reached critical mass.
The administration, congress, and their unelected, unaccountable minions in both government and industry have usurped more unconstitutional power in a few weeks time than we ever imagined possible. Our heads are spinning.
And yet more than half of the American people are prepared to vote into office a man who sees as his destiny the continuation, even acceleration, of that process.
The financial/monetary crisis is so enormous that it may not be 'solved' in our lifetimes (if ever).
Yet that in and of itself is simply a symptom of a system that seeks to do much worse: it seeks to suppress dissent, to erase borders, to define 'choice' as allowable only by government permit, and to replace families with villages.
The results of this election are really quite immaterial. The fact that a full half of the populace either endorses the above, or is too ignorant to realize that that is what they are endorsing, signals that we are in our last days, no matter who we elect to lead us.
As a people, we no longer give a damn about liberty. We want to be 'taken care of', not recognizing that such a state of passive dependence requires complete servitude to a ruling elite that cares not whether we live or die, unless such living or dying somehow benefits 'the cause'. And they care not how we live ... simply that our lives be lived in accordance with their rules.
God bless you, Ward, for your consistency in speaking out against tyranny. I have been reading your insights for nearly ten years now, and have been privileged to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you on many occasions. I applaud your courage, and your resignation to keep your feet firmly planted and your means of defense at hand, as guaranteed us in the Second Amendment.
I share your wish/plea, as the time nears, that twenty more will take our places.
Stay well, friend ...
Newsflash: The Media Back Obama
The single constant in the eternal election remains the media, whose activist role no one will seriously dispute. To point out the prevailing (with honorable exceptions) double standard of reporting so favorable to Mr. Obama by now feels superfluous -- much like talking about the weather. The same holds true for all those reports pointing to Mr. Obama's heroic status outside the United States -- not to mention the cascade of press analyses warning that if he fails to win election, the cause will surely be racism...
Anonymous said...
Joanie, I think almost as important as Obama's stance on "after-birth abortion" is his unwillingness to admit that the surge has not worked.
Our brave men and women have died, and are risking death, every day and he refuses to give them credit for all they have accomplished.
Joanie, did you hear the man in the crowd at McCain's Wisconsin rally today?????
He yelled to McCain, "In the next debate you have to take it to Obama! You have to confront him about Wright, and Ayers, and Pfleger! I am BEGGING you!"
The crowd ROARED in agreement!
So much for "The people don't want to hear about that stuff."
I am BEGGING him too!
joanie said...
Rob,
I did not see that. How did McCain respond?
I agree with the man. We are going to lose this election if he doesn't pull out the big guns.
And it's not even a matter of getter McCain elected (a phyrric victory, at best). It's a matter of informing the public about what Obama genuinely represents.
Instead of doing that, McCain has (so far) been playing by the media's rules:
(1) any mention of Obama's close assoications is: (a) meanspirited, (b) racist, (c) intolerant, (d) desperate, or (e) all of the above.
(2) the public doesn't care (which may indeed be true, since they elected Bill Clinton twice, but it's worth a shot anyway).
If he doesn't start mustering the courage to say what needs to be said, instead of promising the citizenry the world (on the backs of the taxpayer), he's toast.
Joanie,
One of the best essays I've read - yours exluded, of course - ;) on what we're facing, by Rich Carroll:
Obama Will Tear America Apart
Luis said...
Joanie,
If it is any consolation (it probably isn't very much !) this madness seems to have spread right around the world.
London with one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world "celebrated" the partial nationalisation of most of the major banks this week. Many of our councils, police authorities and even charities saw fit to invest their money in Iceland and this may now be lost. The party paying for this is of course the British Taxpayer.
In 1983, Michael Foot a highly academic but very eccentric politician with open marxist sympathies was defeated by Margaret Thatcher who gained one of the highest Government majorities in British history.
Michael Foot was too far from power for most people to get too worked up about but his policies included unilateral nuclear disarmenant and the potential nationalisation of the major banks.
How ironic that 25 years later after the Thatcher years and Blair years, a policy first proposed by marxist eccentric Michael Foot, has actually been implemented.
These are really strange times.
As an external observer I would still say your election is not a foregone conclusion although it certainly looks like it is Obama's to lose now.
Please keep writing Joanie. Whatever happens next month there are many around the world who do not like the direction things are taking and we must persevere come what may.
joanie said...
Thanks for the link to the excellent commentary, Dave. Carroll is much maligned, simply because he has the courage to speak the truth when doing so is no longer the popular recourse.
joanie said...
Very interesting about Michael Foot. I’m ashamed to say I was not aware of those disturbing facts.
Your Thatcher and our Reagan were among the greatest leaders in the history of the free world, and they worked so wonderfully as a team. From all that I have read, their friendship was deep and abiding.
Yet those who followed their terms in office have infamously succeeded in erasing most of the incredible strides they made in making our countries stronger and more prosperous, and focusing our minds and hearts on the preservation of liberty and the sanctity of human life.
Thank you for your always insightful and heartfelt comments, Luis. And continued best to you, your lovely wife, and little N in these troubling times ...
~ joanie
Luis said...
Thank you Joanie.
There is no reason that anyone outside Britain should particularly be aware of Michael Foot. Extreme though his views were, he never came came close to real power.
Despite his views in favour of abolishing the British Monachy, he was actually quite popular with Royal Family especially the Queen Mother.
I guess he was tolerated as a British eccentric and seen as relatively harmless, ironically helping Margaret Thatchar to great power such was Foot's unelectability.
No one seriously thought his plans would implemented and it took 14 years of major reform before Labour was elected again under Tony Blair.
Yet after all that some of his plans are now being implemented. The British press is now reporting that two major British banks will effectively be nationalised tomorrow.
All the best to you and yours during these difficult times.
Why metal coins have dried up
Because the GUBMINT has put a STOP order out there, so that the "money" it prints, is loaned or spent, not saved.
If the GUBMINT needs to enforce that, it will confiscate metal. It is already confiscating land thru ownership control via "banks."
The GUBMINT is relying upon "the baby boomers" to want to get to retirement, instead of resisting.
I keep saying, there is not going to be retirement.
GUBMINT has control as long as you will do anything to get to retirement.
I believe that there is more at stake than retirement.
Stand up.
